Two new rapid response track control cars have been added to Bruntingthorpe’s fleet of vehicles dedicated to ensuring safe and smooth operations on the 670-acre proving ground site. The 2.2-litre Honda Accords have distinctive identification decals and prominent ‘Track Control’ signage and will feature subtle – but highly visible and effective – grille-mounted strobe emergency lights. Fire-fighting and other essential equipment will be carried in both vehicles.
The cars will be employed on a variety of duties including emergency response, vehicle escort and marshalling at large on-site events.
Paul Atkin, general manager – business development, said: “We take all our proving ground activities and operations extremely seriously. And while we hope the vehicles are never called upon for an emergency, it is reassuring for our clients that they are permanently on duty.”
Bruntingthorpe is a member of the European Proving Grounds Safety Association. The organisation – whose members include the leading proving grounds in Europe – promotes and advances safety on proving grounds where prototype and development vehicles are frequently pushed to the limit. ”On-the-limit testing is something that has to be undertaken to ensure products are safe for customers,” said Paul. “What we aim to do is ensure that when such activities are undertaken at Bruntingthorpe they are fully supported by all the appropriate safety measures.”
